Cub Cadet SC500Z (21″) 159cc Self-Propelled Lawn Mower w/ Swivel Wheels

Where do we begin with this Cub Cadet SC500Z review? It’s a gas lawn mower and it’s self propelled and it certainly looks unique, but do those looks actually improve the performance? Follow along to see how we review the Cub Cadet SC500Z and if it’s the lawn mower you’ve been dreaming of.check out our best self propelled lawn mower guide.
Let’s start by saying this self propelled Cub Cadet SC500Z lawn mower has a 21″ cutting deck, which is on the upper end of most recreation push style mowers. This means it will take fewer passes for you to complete your mowing and therefore less time in the hot sun and more time doing other things you enjoy. The engine is a 159cc Cub Cadet OHV (Overhead Valve). This engine should provide years of reliable service and start within 2 pulls. Cub Cadet guarantee’s this for the first 3 years or they will fix the mower for you. That means no more yanking on the starter rope for hours! The engine is also powerful enough to handle almost all situations found in most yards. It drives the cutting blade and the rear drive wheels for the self-propelled feature. The Cub Cadet SC500Z has 6 speeds to choose from so you can mow as slow as a turtle or as fast as a gazelle. Just set the speed, hang on, and steer!
Now we’ll talk about the obvious feature that’s the first thing you notice when you look at this lawn mower. The front wheels. The 7″ wheels are on casters to allow the mower to pivot more easily around turns. This effectively turns the mower into a walk-behind zero-turn mower and greatly improves the maneuverability. These wheels can be set to pivot freely or locked in place to help guide you with straighter lines. It’s a feature the Cub Cadet SC500Z has that most walk-behind mowers lack.
The deck can be adjusted to cut from 1.25″ to 3.75″ so you have a nice wide height range to choose from. You also have the option of bagging, mulching, or side discharge. Dispose of the grass clippings how YOU want to, not how the designer forces you to.
The Cub Cadet SC500Z is a great lawn mower with excellent features and is well worth the cost. If you have a lot of obstacles in your yard, this lawn mower will have your jaw dragging the ground with how easy it is to maneuver.
